Can I borrow books located at libraries other than the University of Alberta?

Answer

Yes! There are two ways:

1) We can bring items from other libraries to you through Interlibrary Loan
The Interlibrary Loan/Document Delivery department will request books, articles, and other sources from other libraries on behalf of U of A students, staff, and alumni. For more information, visit the interlibrary loan page.

2) You can visit other libraries and borrow from them in person
The U of A Library has agreements with many libraries to make it easy for U of A students and staff to borrow books from their libraries in person. U of A students, staff and faculty can visit other government, health, college, and university libraries in the NEOS Library Consortium and register for a library card with them using your ONEcard as proof of NEOS member library status.

You can also borrow books from the Edmonton Public Library by registering for the L-Pass. Note: New L-pass registration is currently paused pending system upgrades.

If you are traveling to another academic institution in Canada or the United States, check our information about reciprocal borrowing agreements to see if you are eligible to borrow items from their library while you are there.
