How do I access an article if I have a DOI?
Answer
Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are often used as a unique identifier for articles available online. They look like this: 10.1109/5.771073. There are a few different ways to access articles using a DOI:
1) Many articles can be found simply by entering the DOI into our Search the Library main search box.
2) Search by DOI using our Citation Search (found in the Find eJournals section of our website).
3) You can use the DOI resolver from dx.doi.org. If you are on-campus using UWS or a campus computer, it should show you the full article if U of A Library has access. It will also show the full text of the article if it is published in an Open Access journal. If you are off campus, search for the article by one of the other methods listed here, or search for the article using the citation information found using the DOI resolver.
4) If access is provided via a publisher website that the U of A has a licensed subscription to, and a DOI is available, use the following EZProxy prefix for the DOI:
http://login.ezproxy.library.ualberta.ca/login?url=http://dx.doi.org/.
If the U of A does not have access to the full text of the article, submit an Interlibrary Loan request.
