What is a scholarly article?
Answer
Scholarly articles are sources of high-quality academic information. When you limit to "Peer Reviewed" or "Academic Journals" in library databases, you will find peer-reviewed journal articles, which:
- Are published in academic journals at regular interviews (e.g., monthly, quarterly, or yearly)
- Are written by academic experts in a particular field of study
- Undergo a review process by experts in the field before publication
- Contain highly specialized academic information on a very specific topic
- Include original research and/or summaries of knowledge on a specified topic
- Are usually fairly long (often 10-20+ pages)
- Follow a set citation style (e.g., APA, Chicago, MLA) for their references
You can find scholarly articles in the search box on the library homepage, or in subject-specific databases.
Examples of scholarly articles:
- Hamlet, Fortinbras, and the Time Value of Risk in Shakespeare’s Elsinore by Edwin Wong
- Prospects for the Use of Metal-Based Nanoparticles as Adjuvants for Local Cancer Immunotherapy by Irina Naletova, Barbara Tomasello, Francesco Attanasio, and Victor V. Pleshkan
- Kinship Pathways: Nurturing and Sustaining Resilient, Responsible, and Respected Indigenous Evaluators by C. Dodge Francis, N. Bowman, and S. King.
