What is a scholarly book?
Answer
Scholarly books, also called academic non-fiction books, usually have broader topics than scholarly articles. They:
- Are often published by academic publishers, such as university presses
- Are written by academic experts in a particular field of study
- Include references in a set citation style (e.g., APA, Chicago, MLA)
- Can be published as a single, standalone book, as part of a series of books, or as a multi-volume work
- Can be published as edited books, which are collections of chapters by different authors
- May be print books or ebooks
You can find scholarly books using the search box on the library homepage.
When reading non-fiction books, you usually only need to read the chapters most relevant to your topic. Look through the book's table of contents or, for an ebook, search within the contents to find relevant chapters.
Examples of academic non-fiction books:
- Gothic Literature by Andrew Smith
- Immunotherapy in Resistant Cancer: From the Lab Bench Work to Its Clinical Perspectives, edited by Mariana Segovia-Mendoza and Jorge Morales-Montor
- Kaandossiwin: How We Come to Know by Kathleen E. Absolon (Minogiizhigokwe)
