Does the University of Alberta Library support Open Book Publishing / Open Monograph Publishing?
Answer
Yes, the University of Alberta Library supports open access (OA) book publishing in various ways:
- Infrastructure support for initiatives such as the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB)
- Support for diamond OA monographic initiatives, such as the MIT Press Direct to Open program
- Purchasing of some annual e-book frontlists, which contribute funding to selected Open Access Publishing, such as the Association of Canadian University Press (ACUP) e-books
- Supporting Publishing of Open Textbooks and Open Educational Resources (OERs)
Open access publishing of books (monographs) is different than OA publishing of journals and journal articles. If you have questions about publishing open access books or book chapters, please Ask Us, and we will direct your query.
Please see this guide on Free Online Resources for a listing of selected open access book repositories and publishers.
